KAVI-Institute of Clinical Research (KAVI-ICR) was represented at the joint meeting of the Centralized Lab Network (CLN) and the Preclinical Model Network (PMN), held in Cape Town, South Africa, in June 2026. The institute was represented by its founding Director, Prof. Omu Anzala, and Dennis Chalo, reaffirming KAVI-ICR's commitment to advancing global vaccine research through strategic international collaboration.
The meeting brought together partners from across the two networks with a renewed emphasis on strengthening collaboration beyond technical laboratory discussions. Participants focused on shared priorities that are critical to the future of epidemic preparedness and vaccine development, including quality management, biosecurity, sustainability, and cross-network knowledge exchange.
Discussions centred on enhancing collaboration between partner institutions, promoting the sharing of expertise and best practices, strengthening global preparedness and response capabilities for future disease outbreaks, and improving communication and coordination across the networks. These efforts aim to support more efficient and effective vaccine research and development while ensuring laboratory systems remain resilient, sustainable, and aligned with international standards.
The programme also included visits to the Centre for Epidemic Response and Innovation (CERI), Afrigen, and Synexa Life Sciences. KAVI-ICR's participation reflects the institute's continued commitment to strengthening international partnerships, contributing to global health security, and ensuring that Africa remains at the forefront of vaccine research, clinical development, and laboratory excellence.
