KAVI-Institute of Clinical Research (KAVI-ICR) is proud to share insights from AfriBOP 2026, held from 16–20 March in Cape Town, which celebrated a decade of transformative impact in building Africa’s research capacity.
Loise Nthambi, a PhD Fellow at KAVI-ICR, attended the conference and shared her reflections. The conference, themed “Training Africa’s Next Generation of Health Research Leaders,” brought together an inspiring community of mentors and emerging scientists from across the continent and beyond. Attendees engaged in robust discussions, workshops, and collaborations aimed at strengthening Africa’s scientific leadership.
One of Nthambi's key takeaways was the importance of translational research for the continent. By investing in African genomic data, researchers can better understand disease patterns and mechanisms within African populations. This approach enables the development of context-specific, tailored solutions rather than relying on generalized global strategies, which may not address unique local health challenges.
KAVI-ICR remains committed to supporting Africa’s next generation of health researchers and advancing science that directly benefits our communities.
