University of Nairobi researchers and leadership joined national stakeholders at the Science, Technology, Research and Innovation for Society (STRI4Society) Week 2026 held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), Nairobi.
The week-long forum brought together policymakers, scientists, innovators, academia, industry and development partners to advance conversations on the role of science, research, technology and innovation in national development.
The closing ceremony was officiated by the Prime Cabinet Secretary, Hon. Musalia Mudavadi, who emphasized the importance of research and innovation in driving Kenya’s economic transformation, competitiveness and inclusive growth.
The event also marked the launch of the Masterplan for Research Financing and Capacity Strengthening, a strategic framework aimed at strengthening Kenya’s research and innovation ecosystem.
Marianne Mureithi, Director of KAVI-ICR and Associate Professor at the University of Nairobi, attended the meeting and engaged in discussions focused on strengthening African-led science, innovation and research capacity.
Speaking during the event, Dr. Mureithi noted the importance of sustained investment in research ecosystems that support locally driven innovation and translation of science into impact for society.
“STRI4Society Week 2026 highlighted the growing momentum around science and innovation in Kenya and the importance of collaborative efforts in strengthening research capacity, innovation and partnerships,” she said.
The forum further underscored the University of Nairobi’s continued contribution to science, research and innovation as key pillars in addressing health and development priorities nationally and globally.
