Marianne W. Mureithi of the University of Nairobi, Part of CAD 2 million International CIHR Award

Dr Marianne W. Mureithi, Director of the KAVI-Institute of Clinical Research (KAVI-ICR)  at the University of Nairobi, is a Co-Investigator on a newly announced CAD 2 million (5-year) international team grant funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) under its Bringing Biology to Cancer Prevention programme.

The study will examine how inflammation and hormonal changes influence HPV persistence and cervical cancer risk in menopausal women.

New Phase 2 Cholera Vaccine Trial Launches in Nairobi

Nairobi, Kenya — The International Vaccine Institute (IVI), in partnership with the KAVI–Institute of Clinical Research (KAVI-ICR) at the University of Nairobi, has officially launched a Phase 2 clinical trial of a novel cholera conjugate vaccine. This study is now actively recruiting adults and children from Nairobi City County to take part in what could be a significant advance in cholera prevention.

KAVI-Institute of Clinical Research (KAVI-ICR) was privileged to have been represented at the Sub-Saharan African Network for TB/HIV Research Excellence (SANTHE) annual consortium meeting (ACM) held in Kigali, Rwanda, at the Marriott Hotel from the 3rd to the 7th of November, 2025. SANTHE aims to shape and drive locally relevant basic, clinical and translational research in Africa, with all of the research conducted under SANTHE being led by African scientists.
