Call for Abstracts
Research Ethics Committees (RECs) are critical in ensuring quality research by protecting the welfare of research participants. The National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI) ensures that research conducted in Kenya meets the highest international and national ethical standards. The Commission does this through the National Scientific and Research Ethics Committee - formerly National Bioethics Committee that accredits RECs and facilitates capacity building of members to ensure competence in reviewing research proposals. In this regard, NACOSTI in partnership with the University of Nairobi and Kenyatta National Hospital received funding from the European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) to build the capacity of newly established RECs in a project titled “Strengthening Research Ethics Committees in Kenya (STReK).” The goal of this conference is to share experiences and lessons learnt with other RECs; to encourage best practices in research ethics oversight and enhance networking. This will be achieved through keynote addresses, abstract driven sessions, panel discussions.

The STReK Conference Organizing Committee is calling for submission of abstracts in English from original research work, literature review, or opinion pieces. The abstract should be limited to 250 words on any of these sub-themes:
1) Research ethics review and oversight

4) Digitization of ethics review process
5) Data protection in Research
