We are pleased to announce that KAVI-ICR will be participating in the 2nd Nairobi Health Scientific Conference (5–7 November 2025) under the theme: “Advancing Universal Health Care Coverage (UHC) Towards Attainment of Sustainable Development Goals 2030 for Nairobi. The conference is being held at the Argyle Grand Hotel on Mombasa Road in Nairobi.
Why this matters
This conference offers a timely platform for the Nairobi City County Government to bring together researchers, policymakers, health service providers, and community stakeholders to reflect on how Universal Health Coverage can be strengthened in our county context. As the conference organisers note, the theme aligns directly with accelerating progress on the Sustainable Development Goals by ensuring everyone has access to essential health services without financial hardship.
KAVI-ICR’s role & booth highlight
KAVI-ICR will be among the exhibitors, with a dedicated booth showcasing our work in clinical research, epidemiology, capacity-building, and public health partnerships. On display will be our current projects, infrastructure, community engagement activities, and collaborations with the county and national health sectors.
Our commitment in partnership with the Nairobi City County Government
Since its establishment in 1998 as the Kenya AIDS Vaccine Initiative within the University of Nairobi, KAVI-ICR has grown into a leading centre for clinical research in Kenya. We strongly believe in the importance of continued collaboration with the Nairobi County Government – particularly through its Health, Wellness & Nutrition Division and the Research Division – to ensure that research findings translate into improved health outcomes for the people of Nairobi.
Our research spans infectious and non-communicable diseases, with a strong emphasis on rigorous, ethically conducted trials, community-based studies, and capacity-building for professionals in the region.
At this conference, we reaffirm our commitment to:
- co-designing research and interventions that reflect the health priorities of Nairobi County.
- strengthening evidence generation for UHC and SDG attainment in Nairobi’s urban context.
- building sustainable partnerships with county health officials, service providers, communities and academic institutions.
- ensuring that our discoveries are translated into policy and practice that benefit Nairobi’s residents.
Looking ahead
We view our participation in the 2nd Nairobi Health Scientific Conference as more than an exhibition. It is an opportunity to deepen collaboration, share results, learn from peers and align our research agenda with the county’s strategic priorities for health, wellness and nutrition. On our participation at the conference KAVI-ICR Director Dr. Marianne Mureithi stated, “At KAVI-ICR we believe that rigorous science and strong community partnerships are essential to improving health outcomes in Nairobi. Our presence at this conference reaffirms our commitment to working hand-in-hand with Nairobi County in advancing Universal Health Coverage and accelerating progress toward the SDGs.”
We invite all colleagues, partners and stakeholders to visit our booth during the conference, engage with our team and explore opportunities for collaboration.
We look forward to the discussions ahead and to the shared journey of advancing health for all in Nairobi.
