KAVI–Institute of Clinical Research (KAVI-ICR), University of Nairobi, recently welcomed a high-level delegation from the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI) on a courtesy visit to extend congratulations to the newly appointed Director, Dr. Marianne Mureithi.

The visiting IAVI team comprised Bashir Farah, William Dekker, Dr. Victor Riitho, Susan Likwop and Catherine Ike. They were received by Dr. Mureithi alongside former Directors of KAVI-ICR, Prof. Walter Jaoko and Prof. Omu Anzala, as well as various departmental heads and senior staff members.

Strengthening a Long-Standing Partnership

KAVI-ICR and IAVI share a rich history of collaboration spanning multiple vaccine trials and joint research initiatives. This visit not only reaffirmed IAVI’s commitment to supporting KAVI-ICR’s future endeavors but also opened discussions on:

  • Exploring opportunities for joint grant applications.
  • Ensuring continued community engagement, especially ahead of the upcoming World AIDS Day in December 2025.
  • Strengthening institutional ties that have been central to advancing clinical research in the region.
