The newly appointed Chancellor of the University of Nairobi Professor Patrick Verkooijen made his very first visit to KAVI-Institute of Clinical Research (KAVI-ICR) as part of his tour of the Faculty of Health Sciences. Guided by our Director Professor Walter Jaoko, Professor Verkooijen was provided with a tour of our research facilities and provided with a breakdown of all the projects KAVI-ICR currently has ongoing.

KAVI-ICR has a rich history of conducting clinical trials and basic science research with key partners and stakeholders globally. The Institute started off as part of the Department of Medical Microbiology & Immunology before becoming a fully fledged Institute and expanding from HIV vaccine clinical trials to vibrant research on immunology, social sciences and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) among others. The Institute has strong ties to the community as one of its core values is for research to have a positive impact on the region.

The entire Institute welcomes Professor Verkooijen to the University and look forward to engaging him along with other members of the University of Nairobi leadership on ideas on ways we can improve the Institute and University as a whole.
