Rio de Janeiro, Brazil — KAVI–Institute of Clinical Research (KAVI-ICR), University of Nairobi, strengthened its global engagement in HIV vaccine research through active participation at AIDS 2026, the 26th International AIDS Conference, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 26 to 31 July 2026 under the theme “Rethink. Rebuild. Rise.”
On 29 July 2026, the KAVI Institute of Clinical Research (KAVI-ICR) at the University of Nairobi hosted a ThermoFisher Innovation Day, welcoming a delegation from Scientific Laboratory Supplies (SLS) and Thermo Fisher Scientific together with scientists from Partners for Health and Development in Africa (PHDA) and the University of Nairobi's Faculty of Health Sciences.

Every year, hundreds of women and men walk into Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) with breast, ovarian, or prostate cancer. Some of them carry a BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutation, a genetic marker that could open the door to life-extending treatment but many may never know. The test that would tell them is cost-prohibitive, and it is not routinely offered in public hospitals in Kenya.
